Ski Touring Kamchatka
Next season I run guided ski touring programs into the far east of Russia - Kamchatka. Kamchatka is a vast wonderland for skiing. The mountains are of volcanic origin, with about three hundred volcanoes, thirty of which are active. This It also includes “Klutchi” Kluchevskaya Sopka (4835 m), the highest active volcano in Eurasia. Kamchatka is also the most extensively glaciated region of north-eastern Asia, with glaciers covering more than 900 square kilometres. That's why Kamchatka Peninsula is also known as the "Land of fire and ice". I run two different programs, both with an amazing combination of scenery and feeling of skiing in a truly remote and unique place.

Three Volcanoes
Avachinsky (2741 m), Koryaksky (3456 m) and Viluchinsky (2173 m)A classic 6-day Kamchatka ski touring programme. We start on Avachinsky pass, staying in mountain hut and skitouring on the slopes of Avachinsky and Koryaksky volcanoes. Skitouring is not very technical, but provides exciting skiing and impressive views. In good weather, you'll see the breathtaking panorama of the Avachinskaya bay, Petropavlovsk, volcanoes surrounding and the Shipunsky mountain range.
After three days of skiing on the pass we move to the south of peninsula, to the mountain hotel in a cosy valley, where we spend two days enjoying perfect corn skiing and relaxing in hot springs. Skitouring on Viluchinsky volcano is another "a must do" thing if you come to Kamchatka in May. In good weather, from the slopes you will see dozens of volcanoes and mountain ranges and the shore of the Pacific ocean. Then there is the perfect skiing in couloirs on the upper part and wide endless fields from mid-volcano height. From mid-May you can add some active options to your skitouring programme - sea kayaking, Pacific Ocean surfing and even King Salmon fishing (from June 1st).
Summer Skiing
Summer skiing in the Northern hemisphere? Yes!
Kamchatka is one of the snowiest places in the world, and at the end of winter (end of May) many places still up to 5-6m of snow. With an average of 3m snow depth at 300-500m altitude, and a cool start to the summer, Kamchatka has perfect conditions for corn skiing until mid-July. Summer is in fact the best time to conquer the highest Kamchatka volcanoes, as the snow starts improving at altitudes above 3000 m and skiing from the tops of big volcanoes becomes easier. At the same time, the sun is bright and very warm, the scenery is still amazing and skiing is easy. Trust us, it will be the best start to your summer!

Accommodation and Meals
Accommodation is either in the Avachinsky Pass Mountain Base or the Mountain Hotel Snow Valley.
The Mountain base on Avachinsky pass is surrounded by big volcanoes and has a nice view on the valley. Huts are simple, but warm (heated by wooden stoves) and clean. Dining room and Banya are separate buildings. The huts has a capacity for maximum 10 people, but in our programs we limit it with maximum 5 persons per hut, to provide the comfort and more space.
The mountain hotel Snow Valley, situated 10 km from Vilyuchinskiy volcano, and surrounded by mountains. Accommodation is in a small chalet with rooms for 4 people and en-suite bathrooms. TWIN or DBL rooms are also available for extra cost. The hotel contains several outdoor pools with hot thermal water, a banya (traditional Russian bathhouse), restaurant and other facilities.
The team does their best to make the meals, as well as the skiing, a remarkable part of your trip. We include traditional Kamchatka products, such as fish, seafood, reindeer meat and wild plants.. There are two hot meals a day and a mountain lunch (sandwiches, chocolate bars, dried fruits/ nuts.
